Rossmund Real Estate

Rossmund Golf and Conference Center

A round of golf at Rossmund is a unique experience. The course is one of 5 registered all-grass desert golf courses in the world. Walk amongst our beautiful springbok, listen to the birds and enjoy a relaxing game of golf in contrasting vistas of the Namib Desert, fairways and greens amid palm groves. Enjoy a peaceful day far away from the hub of city activity.

Course:
6.068 m - 18 holes - Par 72

Driving Range:
There is a beautiful driving range, positioned in front of the lodge. Balls are available by the bucket from the main clubhouse.

Location:
The course is situated east of Swakopmund on the northern bank of the Swakop River. Take the B2 main road from Swakopmund to Windhoek and turn right after 6 km. It is clearly marked ‘Rossmund Golf Club'.

Golf Academy:
There is no official academy as such but our local junior players are coached by some national players and, by arrangement, a professional coach visits Rossmund on a regular basis.

Equipment:
There is a well stocked pro shop in the main clubhouse where golf clubs, caddy carts and club cars are available for hire. Green fees and costs of equipment upon request.

Club House :

The clubhouse is an attractive building situated on a ridge overlooking the 18th green and fairway. It boasts a bar/lounge, ladies and gents locker-rooms, restaurant and conference room, the latter two ideally available for functions such as weddings, anniversaries, etc.

Restaurant:
A fully equipped restaurant is available for all functions by prior arrangement with the caterers. With the exception of Mondays, the restaurant is open daily to serve light lunches. Large functions such as weddings, anniversaries, corporate events, etc can be arranged with the caterers.
A full buffet lunch is served on Sundays – bookings essential.

Conference / Business centre:
The air-conditioned conference room is situated in the main clubhouse, seats approx 80 delegates, has full conference links i.e. overhead projector, data line, ISDN line for video conferencing and large screen.

A smaller conference facility for house guests is available upon request within the confines of the Lodge for 16 or less delegates.

History:
The present all-turfed golf course was originally built 25 years ago by Rössing Uranium Limited. The course was possibly one of the first to be constructed with the same grass on the tees, fairways and greens, but using different surface preparations. The greens are of particularly high quality. The first 9 holes were designed by Robert Trent-Jones and the second 9, established approximately 10 years later, were designed by Bill Kerr. The golf course was later taken over by private enterprise, as it remains today.


Surroundings :

The southern border of the course is the Swakop River. This is an ephemeral river which, in years of abundant rain, has flooded the course. The natural riverine bush provides protection for the fauna which roams freely throughout the area. In general the surrounding terrain consists of the harsh Namib Desert, which boasts its own unique beauty with a backdrop of the graceful Barchan dunes between Swakopmund and Walvis Bay and the Moon Landscape forming two contrasting features. A feature not to be forgotten is the Skeleton Coast where the great Atlantic Ocean pounds this arid desert where history records the grief of many mariners.


Rossmund Lodge :

The  is situated on the northern banks of the Swakop River, approximately 6 Km's outside the coastal town of Swakopmund. The Lodge forms part of the present 18-hole Rossmund Golf Course, which is uniquely situated in the Namib Desert, and is one of five of its kind in the world.

The Lodge is beautifully situated with 360° vistas of the fairways, desert and a backdrop of awesome sand dunes. Its location beyond the coastal mist belt permits its guests to enjoy an abundance of good weather, together with all that nature has to offer in this little desert paradise. Both golfers and non-golfers may stroll freely around the course within touching distance of herds of free-roaming springbok and enjoy identifying the varieties of bird species.

Accommodation and Facilities :

•  18 double chalets (8 facing the golf course)

•  4 chalets (for conversion to family suites if required)

•  All chalets are en-suite, with a fireplace, satellite TV, mini bar, coffee/tea facilities and have private patios.

•  Family suites have a separate lounge area.

•  2 VIP luxury chalets are nearing completion. Rates to be supplied at a later stage.

•  A beautiful rock swimming pool has been built which offers welcome relief to clients after their game of golf, or just a place to soak up the sunshine and tranquility.

•  The reception area houses the attractive bar, lounge and breakfast room, where meals may be eaten inside or beneath the palms on the patio overlooking the course and the desert.

•  A fully-equipped conference room is available which can accommodate up to 80 persons.

•  The a-la-carte restaurant in the main golf clubhouse is open daily (except Monday) from 11:00 to 19:00 and an enjoyable buffet lunch is served on Sundays.
